Koenig School of Dance
Koenig School of Dance is the premier dance instruction studio in Houston, Texas. We believe that the skills and principles learned at our dance studio will help your child beyond their formative years. Our uniquely talented dance instructors teach a balanced dance course, featuring five main disciplines of dance.
- Ballet is a theatrical dance first seen in the 1400’s in Italy, and later France. Emphasis is put on body placement, balance, and proper technique. At Koenig School of Dance, ballet is taught as a fundamental part of every form of dance. Ballet classes begin with barre work and include center floor and across the floor exercises.
- Pointe classes are for the serious ballet dancer. Dancing en pointe requires great strength and skill. Classes begin with strengthening exercises, and should be taken by those that have five or more years of classical ballet experience. Pointe classes should only be taken by children after the bones of their feet are fully formed, generally after age twelve.
- Tap dance is a style of American dance that emerged during the nineteenth century. Lively rhythmic sounds are produced from small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes. Precise patterns of foot movements and foot tapping create the symphony that is modern tap dance.

- Jazz dance became well known in the 1950’s, when tap dancing set to jazz music became a performing art. A foundation of ballet classes and tap dance is required for this highly stylized and technical form of dance.
- Hip-hop dancing focuses on a “street style” of dance that is influenced by the evolution of hip-hop music as well as music videos. The instructors at our dance studio carefully choose age appropriate music and movements to be taught in class.
- BTC is a combination of ballet and tap dance for beginning dancers, from the ages of three to five.
- BTJ includes ballet, tap dance, and jazz instruction. This class is ideal for children aged four to ten.
- Drill team instruction is individual and customized for the particular high school drill team being auditioned for. Basic technique, and high kicks are taught, including dancing with transitions. Every student that has trained at Koenig School of Dance has made the drill team.
Koenig School of Dance is dedicated to your child’s success in every way. Our dance studio features a true marley “floating” covered dance floor. This unique flooring system prevents repetitive use injuries and fatigue through advanced energy absorption.
